Scientific Retreat
The PCF hosts an annual Scientific Retreat that brings together the brightest minds in prostate cancer research in an effort to break down the traditional barriers that impede progress toward better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.
The 2009 Scientific Retreat was held September 24th through the 26th. A summary of important research explored during the meeting can be found in the State of the Science Report.
Researchers in the field of prostate cancer have made extraordinary progress in the past decade since the founding of the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF). In stark contrast to what existed in 1993, there is currently an abundance of talent, activity and resources dedicated to battling this disease. Yet, systemic obstacles continue to hamper the ability of researchers to move the field forward.
The sessions at the PCF 16th Annual Scientific Retreat in September, attended by more than 200 scientific leaders from academia, governmental agencies and the biopharmaceutical industry, spurred dialogue within the prostate cancer research community about the challenges being faced today, helping researchers identify new therapeutic avenues for men with this deadly disease.
