I strove to, and have learned to, do the operation exceptionally well,” he says. He spent a great deal of time with prostate cancer patients during his training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and when it came time to choose a research subject, prostate cancer was his natural choice.

In addition to his PCF Young Investigator Award, Dr. Raj has achieved many other honors. He has received the Hyman Menduke Research Prize for excellence in research, the Paul D. Zimskind Memorial Prize in Urology, the National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina Research Award, the AUA Research Conference Travel Fellowship, the AUA Circon Basic Science Research Award, the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Research Award, and the ASCO Foundation Merit Award. Dr. Raj’s work can be found in 59 research articles and eight book chapters.

When he is not working as an active clinician, researcher, or professor, Dr. Raj enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and partaking in water sports. Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Raj is committed to his work in prostate cancer research. “Having seen patients suffer from the ravages of metastatic prostate cancer, I strive to improve oncologic and surgical outcomes for patients with prostate cancer,” says Dr. Raj. “As a researcher, I am committed to understanding the mechanisms involved in prostate cancer metastasis and developing novel therapeutic approaches to prevent and treat metastasis of prostate cancer.”
