Player Rep: Curtis Granderson

Curtis GrandersonThis year will be Curtis Granderson’s sixth season with the Detroit Tigers.During the 2008 season, Granderson led the American League with 13 triples, making him the first Tigers player to lead the league in triples in consecutive seasons, since Ty Cobb in 1917.He was also second in the American League with 112 runs scored, the first Tigers player to score more than 100 runs in back to back seasons since Tony Phillips in 1992.Granderson finished the season with 26 doubles, 13 triples, 22 home runs, and 12 stolen bases, which marked the seventeenth time that in one season a Tigers player was able to score double digits in those four categories.

The 2008 season was not the only time that he was able to get double digits, 2007 was the second time that Granderson was able to accomplish this feat, putting him as the fourth player in history to accomplish this, along with Bobby Veach (1921), Ty Cobb (1921, and 1925), and Charlie Gehringer.On February 4, 2008, the Tigers signed Granderson to a contract extension through the 2012 season.

Player Rep: Brandon Inge

Detroit Tigers infielder, Brandon Inge is best known for his excellent defense and strong arm. He's played multiple positions, including catcher and outfielder before becoming the Detroit Tigers’ full-time third baseman. In completing his third full season as Detroit's primary third baseman in 2007, Inge topped all American League third basemen with 424 total chances and 325 assists.

 

 

 

 

 

PCF Team Manager: Jim Leyland

Jim LeylandOn October 4, 2005, Jim Leyland was named the 36th manager of the Detroit Tigers.He led the Tigers to the American League pennant and a berth in the 2006 World Series.Even though the Tigers fell short in the World Series, Leyland won the 2006 Manager of the Year Award for the third time in his career, and became the seventh manager to have won pennants in both the American and National leagues.Leyland won the other two awards for Manager of the Year in 1990 and 1992 after leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to two National League Championships.Then in 1997, he led the Florida Marlins to a World Series championship beating the Cleveland Indians.Although the 2008 season was not as successful as the preceding years, Leyland will return in full force to lead the Tigers in the upcoming 2009 season.

During the games, Leyland prefers to wear a similar version of the batting practice jerseys instead of the customary Tigers jersey.
