 In 2008, Cesar Izturis played 135 games for the St. Louis Cardinals.He made 110 starts at shortstop and appeared eight times at third base.As a shortstop, Izturis was third in the National League with a .980 fielding percentage and had only 11 errors in over 100 games.
Izturis is a switch hitter; in 2008 from the right side he had a .290 batting average, and from the left side he had a .245 batting average.On December 16, 2008, he signed a two-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

| Player Rep: Nick Markakis |
 In the 2008 season, Nick Markakis was the starting right fielder and the number three hitter for the Orioles. Markakis hit 20 home runs, 48 doubles, 87 RBI, and scored 106 runs for the team. As right fielder, he had 17 assists, which was more than any other outfielder in the major leagues. He finished the 2008 season as one of the top 10 outfielders in the American League.
In the 2007 season, Markakis was named the Most Valuable Baltimore Oriole by the local media after batting .300 with 23 home runs and 112 RBI in 161 games, Markakis played in every game until the season’s final day. On January 21, 2009, Markakis signed a 6-year contract extension with the Orioles.

 The 2009 season marks the second full season for Dave Trembley as the Orioles manager.After working 22 years in professional baseball, Trembley was hired to the Orioles staff in 2007 as the bullpen coach.Due to a whirlwind of events throughout that season, he went from bullpen coach to de facto bench coach to interim manager.Then on August 22, 2007 he was officially rewarded a contract for the 2008 and an option through 2010 as the official manager of the Orioles.
Trembley is the only manager in Major League Baseball history that has not played baseball professionally.Trembley and the Orioles ended the 2008 season fifth in the American League East Division.
