In the 2008 season, Jay Bruce made his Major League debut and finished fourth among rookies for the National League’s Jackie Robinson Award and was a TOPPS Major League Rookie All-Star.Bruce started as right fielder in 49 games of the 53 game season, and made 108 apps and 103 starts.To date, Bruce has a career batting average of .254, 21 home runs, 52 RBI, 63 runs, and 4 stolen bases.

Bruce entered the 2009 season as being rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the organization and all of baseball, and was rated by Baseball America’s Best Tools issue as the best hitting prospect in the international league.

Dusty BakerJohnnie B. “Dusty” Baker, Jr. was named the manager of the Cincinnati Reds on October 14, 2007, and signed a contract until the 2010 season.Before the Reds, he was the manager of the San Francisco Giants (1993-2002) and the Chicago Cubs (2003-2006).As the manager of the Giants, he was awarded the title of National League Manager of the Year three times (1993, 1997, and 2000) and led them to the National League pennant in 2002.The Reds ended the 2008 season fifth in the National League with a 74-88 record.

On December 17, 2001, Baker underwent successful surgery for prostate cancer under the care of Dr. Joseph Presti.
