Adam Feldman, MD
Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center - Boston, Massachusetts

Dr. Feldman received his BA in Biological Basis of Behavior, from the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his MD from the University of Massachusetts. He is currently an Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and an Assistant in Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital.  He says that “teaching residents and medical students clinical and operative urology is absolutely integrated into my clinical time,” and he hopes that sharing his knowledge will assist in finding a cure for prostate cancer.

Dr. Feldman is interested in prostate cancer research for several reasons. His father had prostate cancer at age 53, and responded positively to surgery before passing away from cardiac disease at age 60 in 2000. Due to his father’s bout with prostate cancer, he was able to see that the disease affects so many men and their families. The experience solidified Dr. Feldman’s belief that it is important for research to advance in order to better treatment outcomes for patients.

“I asked myself how researchers can more effectively diagnose men with prostate cancer and better understand who we should be treating and by what means,” says Dr. Feldman. “I knew then that improved diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers would help us to answer those questions.”

Today, Dr. Feldman is both a scientist and practicing physician. As an active urological surgeon, he enjoys the opportunity to have an ongoing relationship with his patients and helping them through their experiences in facing prostate cancer.

In addition to his PCF Young Investigator Award, Dr. Feldman has received many other accolades. He was given the Resident Abstract Travel Award, from the American Urological Association, and the Merit Award for Outstanding Abstract, from the ASCO Foundation Grants Program. He received the ASCO award on two different occasions, first for his work on the Multidisciplinary Prostate Cancer Symposium, and then for his work on the Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Cancers Symposium. Dr. Feldman’s work can be found in ten scientific or medical publications, including print or other media, and he is also a reviewer for the Journal of Urology.

In an effort to further his education, Dr. Feldman is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness, at the Harvard School of Public Health. He feels that this degree will help him to achieve his academic goals and ultimately help him to “produce high quality independent investigations.”

When Dr. Feldman is not busy studying, working in the lab, or serving the needs of his patients, all of his outside time revolves around spending time with his wife and three children. The avid Red Sox fan says, “I used to enjoy golf, skiing, and hiking. Now I love BBQs with the family and coaching my son’s soccer team.”

Fueled both by his love for his chosen profession and his family, the very ambitious Dr. Feldman remains set on helping to further prostate cancer research, and finding a cure for the disease.
