SANTA MONICA, CA/October 20, 2009—Step 2A CURE, a healthy and fun way for PGA tour spectators to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer, premieres this month at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at the Sonoma Golf Club in California.  During the four-day PGA golf tournament, October 29 through November 1, spectators will be able to sign up, make a pledge and follow tour players through the 18-hole course during competition.

SANTA MONICA, CA/October 6, 2009—Gary Dicovitsky, a twenty-six year veteran in philanthropic fundraising, has joined the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) as executive vice president of development. In his new position, he is in charge of leading the PCF’s major gifts program and other development efforts. Dicovitsky has led successful campaigns at some of the nation’s leading organizations including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the California Institute of Technology and Pomona College. He has also managed fundraising efforts at Princeton University, University of Virginia and Dartmouth College.

SANTA MONICA, CA/September 18, 2009—A new guide, Straight Talk for African-American Men and their Families, is now available from the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF).  It was produced in alliance with Charlie Wilson, famed R&B singer and recent prostate cancer survivor. African-American men are 1.6 times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2.4 times more likely to die from it than Caucasian men.

PCF Funding for Bone Metastasis Research Supports New Drug to Improve Lives of Prostate Cancer Patients
Denosumab, increasing bone density and cutting fracture risk in prostate cancer survivors, is one example of promising developments

SANTA MONICA, CA/August 20, 2009—Twice-yearly intravenous infusion with denosumab, a new targeted therapy to stop bone loss, increased bone density and prevented spinal fractures in men receiving androgen-deprivation therapy for prostate cancer.  The report from an international research study, the first to document reduced fracture risk in men receiving the hormone-blocking treatment, was published today in the print edition of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).  Both fundamental research on rank ligand (RANKL) in prostate cancer bone metastasis and other molecular factors involved in the denosumab study were supported at Massachusetts General Hospital with funding from the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF).
