Prostate Cancer Foundation Statement Regarding Colin Powell's Prostate Cancer Surgery
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 15, 2003 -- Today, Colin Powell underwent surgery for prostate cancer. He joins John Kerry, Norman Schwarzkopf, Rudy Guiliani, other political leaders, and over 220,000 men in the United States who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, making it the most common non-skin cancer in America. One in six men will get prostate cancer during their lifetimes. A man is one-third more likely to get prostate cancer than a woman is to get breast cancer. We estimate that over two million American men are now battling prostate cancer and that over the next decade, about three million more men will be compelled to join the battle.
Prostate Cancer Foundation Names New Advisor and Directors
SANTA MONICA, Calif., November 24, 2003 -- The Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research, today announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors: Robin Richards, former CEO of Vivendi Universal Net USA and founder of mp3.com; Arthur Kern, Founder and Chairman of American Media; and James Allchin, Group Vice President of Microsoft Corp.'s Platforms Group. In addition, Allan Fox, Esq., will begin serving as an advisor to the PCF focusing on accelerating the approval of promising cancer drugs.
Prostate Cancer Foundation Raised More Than $5 Million for Research
NEW YORK, November 14, 2003 -- Billed as "a time to reflect on our past and...look to the future," the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) hosted 1,100 people at its New York fundraising dinner Monday night at the Waldorf Astoria. The star-studded event, hosted by Whoopi Goldberg with a feature performance by Cher and special performances by David Foster and Michael Bublé, raised more than $5 million for prostate cancer research.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation Announces 2003 Coffey Award Recipients at 10th Annual Scientific Retreat
NEW YORK, November 10, 2003 -- The Prostate Cancer Foundation today announced the recipients of the Foundation's 2003 Donald S. Coffey-CaP CURE Physician-Scientist Award during its 10th Annual Scientific Retreat in New York City. The Donald Coffey-CaP CURE Physician-Scientist Awards are designed to honor Dr. Coffey's decades-long commitment to prostate cancer research and his recognition of the important role physician-scientists play in research. The four awardees were chosen for their compassionate and expert care of prostate cancer patients and laboratory research that moved the field forward in a significant way. The PCF recognizes the role that Dr. Coffey and the four awardees have played in improving the lives of all men affected by prostate cancer.
