Trial of Anti-PSMA Designer T Cells in Advanced Prostate Cancer After Non-Myeloablative Conditioning
The Roger Williams Medical Center (RWMC) in Providence, RI is conducting a Phase I clinical trial of designer T cell therapy in patients with metastatic or recurrent prostate cancer. The designer T cells are patients' own T cells that are modified by gene therapy techniques to redirect those cells against a prostate cancer protein, PSMA. The treatment is preceded by a brief course of chemotherapy to improve the persistence of the designer T cells in the body for sustained therapeutic effect.
This clinical trial is funded under a grant from the US Army Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program to Dr Richard Junghans. The trial is supported by Amgen and Novartis with contributions of ancillary drug components. The preclinical development of this agent was conducted under funding from the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The study is listed on the federal clinical trials website: www.clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT00664196
