(December 15, 2005) – Celebrities, business leaders and several prominent New Yorkers came out in droves to attend the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) New York Dinner at the Waldorf~Astoria in New York City on December 14, 2005. The biennial event, attended by more than 800 people, raised more than $4 million for the PCF, the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research.

Prostate Cancer Foundation Receives Record-Breaking Donation from Safeway
Annual June Safeway in-store campaign nets $4.4 million for prostate cancer research
SANTA MONICA, Calif., August 30, 2005 – Safeway Inc., one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America, partnered with the Prostate Cancer Foundation for the fifth year in a row to raise money for prostate cancer research and awareness. During the month of June, Steve Burd, Safeway’s president and chief executive officer, led a company-wide campaign that included point-of-purchase promotions at more than 15,000 checkout stands in all 1,600 Safeway Stores in the U.S. Employees also participated in internal fundraising drives to boost proceeds. Through the astounding participation of shoppers and employees alike, Safeway was able to raise $4.4 million during the month of June which is more than the originally anticipated $4 million. Since its inception, this campaign has raised more than $12.7 million for prostate cancer research, which is truly a remarkable gain for the PCF.
National Foundation for Cancer Research and The Prostate Cancer Foundation Unite with Burnham Institute to Expedite Cancer Drug Discovery

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (“NFCR”) has aligned with The Prostate Cancer Foundation to grant $200,000 in seed funding to The Burnham Institute’s NCI-designated Cancer Center to develop three-dimensional experimental culture systems that simulate a tumor’s micro-environment. The outcome of this pilot study is anticipated to provide a new model for discovery and pre-clinical evaluation of anti-cancer drugs.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Home Run Challenge Hits a Grand Slam for Prostate Cancer Research
In partnership with Major League Baseball, 128 home runs were hit, culminating on Father’s Day, raising more than $2 million for prostate cancer research
SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 28, 2005 – The 9th Annual Home Run Challenge, a partnership between the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and Major League Baseball (MLB), raised more than $2 million for prostate cancer research. During the event timeframe -- June 8th through 19th -- fans made pledges for 60 pre-selected games resulting in 128 home runs, prior to Father’s Day. The money will be used exclusively to develop better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer, the most common non-skin cancer in America. To date, the PCF’s Home Run Challenge has raised nearly $23 million with each dollar funding critical laboratory and clinical work conducted by talented and dedicated scientists around the world.
