AACR-PCF Prostate Cancer Research Recognition Awards for Research Excellence
The Prostate Cancer Foundation is pleased to continue its partnership with the American Association of Cancer Researchers (AACR) in producing the AACR-Prostate Cancer Foundation Recognition Awards for Research Excellence. Recently given at the 2009 AACR Annual Meeting, the awards provide financial support for early-career scientists to travel to AACR scientific meetings to present exceptional proffered papers in the field of translational prostate cancer research.
The two recipients of the 2009 AACR-Prostate Cancer Foundation Recognition Awards for Research Excellence are:
Geraldine Gueron, M.S., Graduate Student, University of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Abstract # 3892, Critical role of endogenous Heme Oxygenase 1 (HO-1) as a tuner of the invasive potential of prostate cancer in vitro and in vivo through MMP9 modulation.
Magaly Martinez-Ferrer, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, Abstract # 1592, Identification of differentially expressed serum autoantibodies in recurrent prostate cancer patients.

Part of the AACR Scholar-in-Training awards program, this award recognizes excellence in translational prostate cancer research and is used to offset travel expenses for the 2009 Annual Meeting and future AACR meetings and special conferences for the next two years. Attendance at AACR's meetings not only provides top-notch scientific education for young investigators, but also promotes the exchange of information and offers valuable networking, collaboration and mentorship opportunities.
