Prostate Cancer Foundation Launches "Monument Park" Virtual Tribute Community
Kintera Sphere™ enterprise-level software platform provides innovative, online tribute/memorial area to honor men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer
San Diego - October 28, 2004 - Politicians and sports heroes, husbands and sons - they are all among the hundreds of thousands of men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
To honor those who have fought the disease, as well as men battling for their lives right now, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) announced today the launch of "Monument Park" (www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/monumentpark), a virtual, online area for tributes and memorials for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Using Internet tools developed by technology solutions provider Kintera® Inc. (NASDAQ: KNTA), web visitors can create their own Monument Park mini-site featuring a library of photos and memories for a loved one, or post a message on an individual's virtual monument site.
"Prostate cancer, the most common cancer in America, strikes more than 230,000 men each year, and will take the lives of 30,000 this year alone," said Leslie D. Michelson, vice chairman and chief executive officer of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. "Our technology partnership with Kintera is helping the PCF honor and remember men attacked by this disease, and harness more of society's resources to defeat it."
At Monument Park, family members and friends can create a virtual tribute to loved ones diagnosed with prostate cancer. With easy-to-use online templates, supporters can build custom mini-sites featuring up to 10 photos or images, and they can use an email system to invite friends and family to visit the personalized tribute/memorial website. Web visitors can share their thoughts in the form of personalized messages and contribute money. Donations will help the PCF continue its mission of finding better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.
"As a medical doctor, I am concerned that hundreds of thousands of American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year," said Dr. Harry Gruber, CEO of Kintera. "Kintera's technology is being used by the PCF to raise funds, and spread the word about this deadly disease. We are pleased that PCF is saving lives by educating web visitors about prostate cancer and generating critically needed donations, among other online efforts."
In June, 2004, the PCF deployed Kintera's Content Management System (CMS) to restructure and launch an in-depth 250-page website which offers comprehensive information about prostate cancer prevention, detection and treatments for patients, the latest information on research to find better treatments, PCF's accomplishments, and ways for people to provide support. This website demonstrates that the PCF is the authoritative resource on prostate cancer.
The PCF is also using the Kintera Sphere™ software platform for customer relationship management (CRM), Kintera's Friends Asking Friends® solicitation program, secure online donations and web-based communications tools to manage eNewsletters and Spread the Word grassroots marketing. The PCF website allows the foundation to clearly communicate in real-time with supporters, and enables them to form a true community with a common cause.
Since partnering with Kintera, the PCF has experienced a doubling of visitor time spent on their website and a 1,000 fold increase in online registered users.
