The Prostate Cancer Foundation Named Official Charity of the 2006 Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon
Partnership to raise awareness and dollars for prostate cancer research
SANTA MONICA, Calif. — August 2, 2006 — Creating a unique education platform targeting professional and recreational triathletes, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) announced today a partnership that names the PCF as Official Charity of the 2006 Kaiser Permanente City of Los Angeles Triathlon, scheduled for Sunday, September 10, 2006.
Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, affecting one in six men in the United States. Of the anticipated 3,200 athletes participating, approximately 1,700 will be men. Statistically, 280 will be diagnosed with the disease sometime in their life. The partnership spans marketing and public relations to educate competing athletes, family members and spectators about the importance of this significant disease.
The PCF will use the partnership to distribute materials to participants and spectators, display signage at the event, staff race registration and host the pre-event VIP cocktail party with professional athletes, sponsors and local elected officials. The PCF will also present a special award to the top fundraiser, and the male and female race winners in several older Age Group categories.
"We are excited to be the designated official charity of the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon," said Leslie D. Michelson, chief executive officer of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. "This signature event creates a substantial platform from which to raise not only awareness of the most common non-skin cancer in America, but also critical research dollars from competitors."
"Prostate cancer is a disease that men should never ignore," said Jack Caress, race director for the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon. "We are committed to our competitors' health and safety, and are proud to work with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to educate men and their families about this critical issue."
