2005 Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer for Healthcare Professionals           2004 Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer for Healthcare Professionals

Vast amounts of data describing the findings from basic science and clinical research programs are emerging daily, making it increasingly challenging for treating physicians to stay abreast of the emerging new information.

The first annual Report to the Nation on Prostate Cancer, published in 2004, is designed to serve as a brief, yet comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in prostate cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and research. It summarizes current and emerging information on treatment decisions for every stage of disease, establishing a common framework for a dialogue among specialists treating patients with prostate cancer and researchers engaged in both basic and clinical research.

The 2005 update, Focus on Advanced Disease, takes that idea one step further, by focusing on the ways that practicing urologists, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists can work together to apply the latest research findings in their private practices. The first half of the Report offers a review of the evidence, detailing the challenges in the management of patients in this setting; the second half, following a single patient case from initial diagnosis through the latest stages of disease, allows readers the opportunity to share in a discussion among leading prostate cancer experts as they offer their opinions and strategies for the optimal clinical management of real-world challenges inherent in treating patients with advanced disease.
