Wade F. B. Thompson Makes $500,000 Matching Grant to the Prostate Cancer Foundation
Thompson, chairman, president and CEO of Thor Industries, dedicates his life to defeating cancer

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — August 1, 2006 — Wade F. B. Thompson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Thor Industries, Inc. (NYSE:THO), has made a $500,000 matching grant to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF).

The Wade F. B. Thompson Matching Grant is designed to provide an incentive to individuals giving their first gift, renewing their giving and/or increasing their support. From August 1 to December 31, 2006, donations made via direct mail, online or through the Athletes for a Cure program (www.athletesforacure.org) will be matched dollar for dollar, so each dollar donated becomes $2.

"The Prostate Cancer Foundation is honored and privileged to accept Wade Thompson’s generous matching grant," said Leslie D. Michelson, chief executive officer of the PCF. "Mr. Thompson exemplifies the best in philanthropy; he is generous with both his time and his resources. These specific contributions will play a critical role in sparking innovative ideas in drug discovery and development and will provide needed resources to researchers as they aggressively search for better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer."

Having survived prostate cancer, melanoma and colon cancer, Thompson dedicates his life to defeating cancer. In 2005, Thompson made the first-ever Prostate Cancer Foundation Matching Grant, offering to match up to $250,000 from other donors. With the help of many caring supporters, the PCF was able to surpass his goal with nearly 2,000 donors contributing $393,800. Thompson generously gave an additional $100,000, making a total of nearly $750,000 raised in last year’s matching grant.

The PCF immediately put those funds to use in the 2005 Competitive Awards Program, which supports innovative prostate cancer research projects. This program has funded many novel ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and has spurred the development of new therapeutic strategies and drugs for use against prostate cancer.

"The Prostate Cancer Foundation is able to encourage, assist and provide valuable resources to the top researchers in the field of prostate cancer," Thompson said. "I am proud to commit a second matching grant to help the PCF continue to advance leading research into the science behind this devastating disease."

Thompson is also the founder of The Drive Against Prostate Cancer, two mobile medical vehicles that have provided nearly 50,000 free prostate cancer screenings across the United States so far.
