Golf Digest, Hallberg Golf Charity Productions and the Prostate Cancer Foundation Announce Agreement
Golf Digest and the Saturday Series Pro-Am join Arnie’s Army, and hope to raise public awareness of the PCF’s mission to find better treatments and a cure for recurrent prostate cancer

Santa Monica, CA - April 26, 2005 - Golf Digest, Hallberg Golf Charity Productions, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached whereby the PCF will be the primary charitable beneficiary of Hallberg Golf Charity Productions and the Saturday Series Pro-Ams for 2005. Proceeds from each Saturday Series event will support the PCF and each amateur participant in the Saturday Series will be enrolled in Arnie’s Army Battles Prostate Cancer program.

The PCF is the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research. Founded in 1993, the PCF has raised more than $230 million and provided funding for prostate cancer research to more than 1,200 research projects at 100 institutions worldwide.

“Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in America, striking over 230,000 men this year alone,” said Leslie D. Michelson, PCF Vice Chairman and CEO. “This relationship with Golf Digest and Hallberg Golf Charity Productions will harness more of society’s resources to accelerate the discovery of a cure and is vital to educating men about the severity of prostate cancer.”

The Saturday Series Pro-Am is a PGA TOUR official event, pairing amateur participants with PGA TOUR professionals who miss the cut in that week’s Tour event. Since its inception in 1998, the Saturday Series has raised more than $2.4 million for charity. Each 18-hole event is made up of teams that include one PGA TOUR player with four amateur partners in a “total net birdies” points format.

The Saturday Series has gained a reputation with the pros for being fun and relaxing, and the pros are always willing to share their knowledge of the game with the amateurs in their groups. Each PGA TOUR pro plays nine holes with one group, and then nine with another, giving the amateurs the opportunity to meet and play with two different pros.

Here’s what Scott Simpson, 1987 U.S. Open Champion, said after his first time playing in a Saturday Series Pro-Am:

“I think it’s a great idea, something we should have done long ago. It used to be if you missed the cut, that was it for the week, and you went home with nothing. This is much better and gives amateurs a chance to play with the pros. It actually helped my game today. After missing the cut on Friday I was pretty disappointed, but after I went home, I thought about some things and decided I’d try them on the course today, and they worked. It was a lot of fun…”

About Hallberg Golf Charity Productions & the Saturday Series
A Saturday Series event offers a completely different experience from the typical tournament pro-am. The Tour professional playing in a Wednesday Pro-am is thinking about the tournament in which he is competing. He’s playing a practice round—from the back tees while his amateur partners play from the middle tees. The Saturday Series is different because the Tour pros are there to focus on their amateur teammates and even have lunch and play the middle tees with the amateurs to maximize their time together. Our format is designed to encourage a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

About Arnie’s Army Battles Prostate Cancer
The Arnie’s Army Battles Prostate Cancer campaign is invading golf and country clubs nationally in 2005, enlisting golfers to join honorary spokesperson Arnold Palmer in the mission to eliminate prostate cancer as a life-threatening illness.

Arnie’s Army began moving across the nation in 2003 with a goal of enlisting hundreds of thousands as members of Arnie’s Army and raising several million dollars for the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s mission.

These one-day events (chosen at club’s discretion) are built around a closest-to-the-pin contest on a pre-selected par-3 hole. Each player will receive a one-year subscription to Golf Digest Magazine, a prostate cancer awareness card, and an Arnie’s Army token of appreciation as a thank you for participating in the event and supporting the cause. The winner of the contest will receive a significant prize.
